ExxonMobil PNG and NiuPower celebrate first gas to the Port Moresby Power Plant

ExxonMobil PNG and NiuPower celebrate first gas to the Port Moresby Power Plant

Celebrating completion of gas connection to Port Moresby Power Plant

March 6, 2019

Port Moresby

ExxonMobil PNG and NiuPower project and operating teams celebrated the completion of the gas connection to the Port Moresby Power Plant on Wednesday 6 March. A celebration lunch was hosted by ExxonMobil PNG to deepen the relationship and celebrate this milestone with the NiuPower team.

The Port Moresby Power Plant is finalising testing and commissioning systems and equipment items. It is expected that by the end of March 2019, Port Moresby will be benefiting from NiuPower’s 58MW gas-fired power generationplant utilising gas from the PNG Highlands. This new power plant will help Port Moresby with its growing power needs and improve system reliability.

By utilising domestic gas, NiuPower is supporting the transition from more expensive and less environmentally friendly diesel and Heavy Fuel Oil power generation to gas.
